Gluten-Free Recipes

In February of 2019 I discovered that I have a gluten allergy, which has impacted my life both positively and negatively. For one, I found a cause to my constant unbearable stomach pain. On the other hand, this also meant that I had to establish a gluten-free lifestyle, which was a drastic change from my regular diet.

Before this realization I didn’t even know what gluten was, so I didn’t know that gluten was in most of the foods that I ate on a daily basis. Surprisingly after a couple of weeks this alteration was manageable and didn’t seem to make that big of a difference in my life. It wasn’t until my best friend came back home from college that I realized the impact gluten has on my social life. For instance, my friend and I have many traditions that involve eating glutenous foods that I can no longer eat. In addition, there are many foods that were a large part of my childhood that I can not have in my life anymore.

However, I will not let my gluten allergy prevent me from partaking in these traditions that have lasted for many years or eating foods that bring back many wonderful memories. I decided to develop gluten-free recipes (with the help of the internet) for memorable foods that I miss greatly.

Also, just as a warning, this is going to sound like I had a really unhealthy childhood. My mother always cooked homemade healthy meals, with the occasional junk food thrown in every now and then. That being said, it is important to know that just because foods are gluten-free, that does not mean that they are healthy. I feel that this is a misconception that a lot of people have. All of these recipes are delicious and great for people with gluten allergies, but they are not necessarily healthier than regular versions of these foods.
